6 Things to Consider When Growing Roses | Rose Maintenance

For healthy plant and prolific blooms, rose maintenance is needed. Consider these 6 tips to get the best result.rose

Rose Maintenance

1. Choose Sunny Location

Roses love the sun. Find a location that receives as much sun as possible. A couple of hours of shade in an afternoon or a spot with light shade might not hurt the plant.

2. Ventilation is Important

Good ventilation is important for growing roses. Make sure that your roses are not growing densely. Due to the proper ventilation, the leaves dry out quickly after you water them or when rain falls. This is important for the prevention of fungal diseases.

3. Rich Organic Soil

The soil is the key for happy, lush and healthy rose plants laden with fragrant roses. Loose nutrient-rich and moist soil is ideal with a pH level around 5.5 – 7. Optimum pH level is 6.5, which means the slightly acidic soil is needed.

Roses do not like wet feet and never do well in soggy soil. The soil must, therefore, be permeable. Excellent drainage is essential. Soil must be loamy and fertile, rich in organic matter. When preparing the soil for roses add lots of manure or compost.

4. When Planting Roses

Once you bought the roses, plant them as soon as possible after arrival. Roses like lots of organic fertilizer so it good to add compost or aged manure into the soil.

5. Fertilize Well

Fertilize roses with rose fertilizer in every 6 weeks or so, once the weather starts to warm up and you see a few buds sprouting up. Stop fertilizing until the beginning of fall. Once the leaves fall off in winter apply aged manure or compost.

6. Pruning Roses

Pruning roses are essential for rose maintenance. In the first year, you can cut all the branches back to three to four buds above the ground before spring. Leaving it at a height of 10 to 15 cm. In order to stimulate a diversified growth cut preferably in an outwardly directed knob. Repeat pruning every year and also cut dead, diseased, damaged and out of shape branches time to time.
